On the Inductive Tuning of Periodic Metallic Patterns to Minimize Antenna Dimensions

Résumé

This paper has clearly shown that a patch reduction is obtained by using periodic metallic patterns with strong local inductive effects. A greater reduction can be expected with stronger local capacitive effect (smaller gaps g). The main idea is to realize low-profile slow wave structures to reach the miniaturization constraints of some of the wireless applications. As expected, the efficiency drops when the size is reduced but remains equivalent to the efficiency observed in other small antennas
