L'Amérique latine et les modèles européens

Abstract : Between identity and otherness, the relationship to Europe is an inescapable question for those who want to understand the history of contemporary Latin America. During the Wars of Independence, the Creole elites evoked this link in terms of example or influence... Subsequently, Latin American art, fashion, ideas and institutions often appeared to be inspired by European "models", reinforcing the postulate of a "Western" ensemble. The book addresses this highly controversial issue by trying to lay the foundations of a more complex history, made of transfers and unprecedented political inventions where the protagonists of the two continents work in equal parts. In short, it is the Euro-American laboratory of Modernity that is taking shape here.
