Mémoires de maladies industrielles à Aulnay-sous-Bois. : Valorisation/dévalorisation du territoire entre reconnaissance et effacement

Abstract : The case of the pollution caused by the CMMP plant in Aulnay-sous-Bois (Northern Paris suburb) highlights the general misunderstanding of health impacts related to carcinogens exposures and the circumstances in which they took place, illustrating the stakes involved in building a collective memory: struggling against oblivion to prevent risks. Testimonies of people involved in this story appear fundamental in the construction of the memory of this pollution and its consequences. Before they disappear, it is necessary to collect and organise them, to connect them to one another, which raises the question of the physical medium for this memory. Building a collective memory also raises questions about the valorisation/devalu-ation of the impacted territory. In Aulnay-sous-Bois, people have long opposed the prevention and protection of population health to the economic activity/image of the city.
