Splendeur de la métaphore et connaissance chez Cardan

Abstract : The essay deals with Cardano’s use of metaphor in his work, especially in his autobiography De Propria vita. According to Cadano, tropes as well as splendor are ways of knowing. The scholar transfers the model of neo-platonician illumination which he inflects in order to explore obscure fields of human life. Subtle Figures of duality, the metaphors transform experience into speech ; they appear as figures of knowledge crafted by an ingenious artist as they require hermeneutic readings. Through their prism, natural diversity is portrayed as an ordered representation.
