La recherche universitaire en EPS depuis 1945 : entre pluralité scientifique et utilité professionnelle

Abstract : We propose an historical analysis of French research concerning Physical Education (PE) since 1945. Our purpose is to draw the beginning of the scientific research in relation with Physical Education Teacher Education (PETE) and to show problems related to the different sequences of this process. The progressive unification of the different structures of PETE around university in order to link training to scientific research seems like a way of recognizing PE and, by the way, of creating and defending a strong professional group. Continuation of these aims will provide external and internal tensions. Indeed, the construction of a discipline related to PE at University will produce conflicts, outside the discipline with a concurrence among different institutions, inside by the difficult mix of pedagogical and scientific purposes but also by competition between various scientific fields. Moreover, construction of PE training and research is complicated by the simultaneous development of three different components schooling process, sport practice (Department of Youth and Sport) and academic research context. In fact, compared with others countries, french case looks like a specific process consisting of a multiplication of training structures settled in different disciplines.
