Hydrodynamic resistance of a single foam channel

Résumé

Macroscopic theories for foam drainage are generally based on a description of the liquid flow on the microscopic scale: the Plateau border channels and their junctions. Within this approach, the foam is viewed as a network of connected channels resisting against the liquid flow. However, the knowledge on the hydrodynamic behaviour of one of these channels is limited. In this paper, we report measurements for the hydrodynamic resistance of a single Plateau border channel. The influence of the viscosities of the bulk and of the interface is studied. The results are compared with available models for the flow through idealized foam channels. (c) 2004 Elsevier B.V.
